BSC 2021 Annual Seminar – recording and slides now available

We held our annual Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) meeting and seminar last Thursday (8 July) where our executive team presented on our performance, strategic objectives and how our work supports progress to net zero.

This included a re-cap by our Chief Executive Mark Bygraves and Angela Love, Director of Future Markets and Engagement, on the importance of major Modifications such as P375 ‘Settlement of Secondary BM Units using metering behind the site Boundary Point’ and P398 ‘‘Increasing access to BSC Data’.

Peter Stanley, Director of Digital Operations, also talked through our work to completely digitalise the BSC and its subsidiary documents, and progress on the roll out of our new digital platform, Elexon Kinnect.

Angela also presented on the Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS) implementation programme and how Elexon as MHHS Programme Manager and Senior Responsible Owner, will deliver it.

Guest speakers highlight the challenges for reaching net zero

Our guest speakers Fintan Slye, Director of National Grid ESO, and Dermot Nolan, a Director at the consultancy, Fingleton (and former CEO of Ofgem) shared their views on the challenges that the Government and the sector face to move quickly on implementing policies that will propel the UK towards net zero.

National Grid ESO is at the heart of a number of major initiatives, which include designing an offshore transmission grid with Government, which will support connection of up to 100GW of wind generation. Dermot Nolan said that engaging customers in the market and gaining their support for policy changes is the biggest challenge the sector will face going forward.
