We have published our response to Ofgem’s consultation on the governance of the Data Sharing Infrastructure (DSI). We fully support this initiative and view the development of the DSI as key enabler in supporting sector-wide data sharing and interoperability.
Our key recommendations
Interim DSI Coordinator Role
Elexon supports the establishment of a working group or independent body as the Interim DSI Coordinator, rather than NESO, to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure wider stakeholder engagement.
Ambitious and Agile Timeline
We propose a more ambitious and agile implementation timeline, allowing multiple initiatives to run in parallel for faster progress and better integration.
Wider Adoption of Data Best Practice (DBP)
Elexon strongly advocates for DBP. Currently, DBP is only mandated for Network Operators, but we believe wider adoption is crucial for achieving full data interoperability across the sector. Disparities in data maturity could hinder progress, so mandating DBP would help address this and enable more data to be integrated into the DSI.
Collaboration Across Initiatives
Close collaboration between the DSI and Flexibility Digital Infrastructure (FDI) initiatives is essential. Elexon is ready to share lessons learned from our experience with the Data Integration Platform (DIP) to support the evolution of the DSI.
Stakeholder Engagement
Successful implementation will require effective stakeholder engagement, led by a neutral working group, alongside a strong communications strategy.
