Over the past year, Elexon and ElectraLink have been working together to ensure that access to half-hourly consumption data for large-scale meters (D0036/D0275), which have historically transferred across the DTS, will continue to be available after it begins to be transferred across Elexon’s Data Integration Platform (DIP) for Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS).
Continued access to this data is vital to the industry as over 90% of the large-scale I&C supplier market currently relies on ElectraLink to provide access to this data for quoting, demand forecasting and accurate onboarding. In addition to these suppliers, a significant number of TPIs also require the use of this crucial information for quoting and contracting purposes when acting on behalf of their customers as brokers.
As things currently stand, ElectraLink, working with its data trust, has established technology, governance and contractual arrangements to ensure energy participants have fast, secure reliable access to this data when they need it to deliver great service to their customers. This is delivered via APIs under consent.
At the beginning of Q3 2025, half-hourly consumption data for large-scale meters will begin to transfer across Elexon’s DIP. Once this process is established, ElectraLink will continue to access this data to provide its API service to its customers, through a mechanism derived from Elexon’s platforms.
Without this new relationship between ElectraLink and Elexon, there would be a period of transition where neither ElectraLink nor Elexon, as single parties, would have all the data required to provide the existing users with a single source of data. This of course would have created significant uncertainty in the market and upheaval to parties.
Instead, Elexon and ElectraLink, two central parties that have underpinned the energy market for decades, are working together to provide the market with certainty that this vital data will remain available in a single contiguous stream until such time that the transfer of all MPANs and historical data has been achieved by the programme. This will ensure that all parties who rely on this data for their processes will maintain access to services that their businesses are built on and their customers rely on. Access to this data will remain in the same format and governance arrangements as it does today to minimise any additional disruption or cost during the transition.
Elexon and ElectraLink fully anticipate the service to be operational before the first half-hourly flow is transferred over the DIP and will continue to do so until the service is available in its newfound format post-full MHHS migration.
